About Discover the Geopark by Canoe

Discover the abundant varieties of wildlife and habitats with a local expert and Geopark guide on water during this four hour tour. Located in a Special Area of Conservation participants canoe along the shores of Lough Oughter discover the many islands where they can enjoy stunning views and watch the vast array of birds and wildlife in their natural habitat. Species include heron, mallard duck, whooper swan, otters, badgers and pine martens.

What is involved

Guided Tour. Canoe from Carratrow Bridge on Inishmore island along the waterways to Cloughoughter Castle with Geopark guide who will educate and inform everyone about the gifts that surround us. You will be given your own single or double kayak or canoe and instruction from our staff before heading out on the water. Our most popular trail is Clough Oughter Castle. Discover the historic 13th century Anglo Norman Castle that lies serenely amid the lakes, hidden in a maze of islands and waterways. Enjoy a picnic by the Castle with just the wildlife for company, before paddling your way back to Carratrow. Discover the unique relationship the plants and animals have in this area of conversation and how the landscape evolved with the expert guides.

What to bring

Wear warm layered clothing and bring a full set of warm clothes for after your adventure. Bring a small packed lunch, we will provide tea and coffee.
