About Guided Boat Tour

In the company of a local expert guide, embrace nature on this magical boat trip through Lough Oughter’s many waterways. Relax and take in the sights, sounds and smells of the unspoilt landscape dotted with native birds and wildlife. Hear about local stories, folklore and the turbulent history associated with Clough Oughter Castle and the surrounding area. Admire the beauty of this 13th century Anglo Norman Castle as it sits serenely amid the islands on a little island of its own that is accessible only by water.

What is involved

An experienced local guide will take you to Clough Oughter, a ruined circular castle on a small crannog in Lough Oughter, 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) east of the town of Killeshandra in Co Cavan, Ireland. The Silent Stone Watchman is one of the nicknames given to this 13th Century Norman structure. Built around the time of the last Kings of Ireland, the castle is steeped in a history of conflict and violence and is only accessible by water.
